How to Use Pop Rivets | Completing the Storage Project

Are you looking for a good overview how to use Blind Rivets, otherwise known as 'Pop' rivets? In this video we take a look at fixing some stainless steel fittings to plastic boxes where blind rivets, or pop rivets, are a far superior solution compared to screws or nuts and bolts.

Did you know the Pop rivet is a trademark now owned by Stanley tools? Or that they were first invented just over 100 years ago by Hamilton Neal Wylie who was an ex Royal Navy Reservist and Engineer. The single piece rivet consists of a mandrel which is discarded and the rivet which are commonly made from aluminium (aluminum), stainless steel, monel (a nickel alloy that is resistant to corrosion), brass or copper.

Also featured in the video are rivet nuts or threaded inserts which work in a similar way using a different mandrel in the second setting tool shown.

Oh, and we also learn how Karl takes his tea.
